Prof. Dr. Muhammad Asif Zahoor has earned his Doctorate from Veterinary Medicine University, Vienna-Austria. Currently, he is working in the domain of Microbiology, Antimicrobial Resistance and Public Health including AMR surveillance from clinical, veterinary and environmental isolates.

Standardization of ELISA for the evaluation of antibodies in children vaccinated against measles through expanded program on immunization

Measles is highly communicable disease caused by RNA virus of the genus Morbilivirus in the family Paramaxoviridae and is a common cause of childhood morbidity and mortality. According to WHO in 2011 a total of 4386 cases of measles were reported in Pakistan. Incidence of complications is high in measles patients, especially in children less than 5 years of age. Since 1986 a live attenuated measles vaccine originated from the Edmonston strain is used in Pakistan.
The Expanded Program on Immunization (EPI) of Health Department, Punjab is a disease prevention activity to reduce illness, disability and mortality from childhood diseases preventable by immunization. Three million children & 19.5 million child bearing age females are being protected against eight vaccine preventable diseases and tetanus respectively.
The outbreaks in 2011 indicate the need to ensure that parents should be aware of immunization program and associated risks with non vaccinated infants. Keeping in view the present situation, this research study is designed to optimize the conditions for ELISA which assists to evaluate the immune response in infants against Measles.
