Brief Statement of research work

Group Leader: Molecular Genetics, Breeding and Genomics Lab My research interests focus to elucidate molecular genetics and genomics of crop plants (cotton, maize, rice, sugarcane, wheat) to enhance crop production. I conduct and supervise research on molecular genetics, bioinformatics, structural genomics, functional genomics, comparative genomics and computational genomics. I have identified significant marker-trait associations for abiotic and biotic stress tolerance in cotton, rice and sugarcane. I have identified single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) in cotton and wheat. I am characterizing important gene families in major crop plants i.e., cotton, maize, rice, wheat etc. for diverse traits of interest such as development, biotic/abiotic stress tolerance, nutritional effects etc.
