Brief Statement of research work

I am Dr. Shabana Naz, an Associate Professor of Zoology with a strong interdisciplinary research profile. My research work covers a broad range of disciplines within zoology, with a strong focus on Wildlife Biology, Animal Nutrition, Toxicology, Nanotechnology, and Applied Animal Sciences. My early academic research was centered on Population Ecology and Taxonomy, including demographic studies of rodents (Mus musculus, Rattus rattus, and Millardia meltada) and morphometric and phenetic analyses of snake species in Pakistan. My PhD research focused on population dynamics of rodent pests and the evaluation of eco-friendly management strategies using food-energy inhibitors as alternatives to conventional rodenticides. Over time, my research interests expanded toward experimental and applied studies in Poultry, Livestock, Fisheries, and Wildlife. A major component of my work involves evaluating nutritional interventions, including Probiotics, Phyto-biotics, Enzymes, Organic Minerals, and Alternative Feed Resources to improve growth performance, immunity, reproductive efficiency, and gut health. I have extensively investigated biologically synthesized nanoparticles, particularly selenium, silver, and copper nanoparticles, with emphasis on their bioavailability, toxicity, genotoxicity, histopathological effects, and bioaccumulation in avian and animal models. In addition, my research addresses environmental and toxicological concerns, including Pesticide toxicity, Heavy Metal exposure, Oxidative Stress, and DNA damage in wildlife and domesticated species. I have also explored the use of blood, feathers, and eggs as bioindicators for environmental contamination. My recent work incorporates molecular, genomic, and phylogenetic approaches to understand gene regulation, stress responses, and productivity traits in fish, poultry, and livestock species.

Endoparasitic study of wild Goats Sheep kept at Jallo Wildlife Park, Lahore Safari Park Lahore zoo, Lahore
PM-IPFP/HRD/HEC/2011/
variety of the eggs of endo-parasites were present in investigational animals i.e Samber (Rusa unicolor), Goral (Naemorhedus goral) and Sika Deer (Cervus nippon), as well as in wild sheep, Mouflon sheep (Ovis ariess) and urial (Ovis orientalis), results showed that immature and females are susceptible to parasitic infection than males. Results of that research also revealed that most of the trial animals harbor mix infection of endo-parasites. Two species of coccidian i.e Eimeria spp. and Isospora spp. were also examined. Eimeria spp. was dominant in all experimental animals. Conclusively, high prevalence of endo-parasites was determined among all animals from the present study indicating life threats and economical loss of natural number of live stock, suggesting to adopt precautionary measures. However infections with endo-parasites should not be neglected. Most of the Mouflon sheep (O.ariess), Sambar (R.unicolor), Goral (N.goral) and Sika deer (C.nippon) observed have not shown any type of clinical signs and symptoms of diseases but still contain a sufficient number of endo-parasites.
