Brief Statement of research work

My research interest focuses on the exploration of indigenous flora for the treatment of various diseases, based on an understanding of the mechanisms underlying the successful interactions between the plant components and disease. For this purpose, we are now using computational tools to correlate laboratory findings with computer modeling. I am currently, working on type 2 diabetes and Cancer which are linked to unregulated metabolism. Majorly we are working on SFRP4 which is an early marker of these diseases. Moreover, we are working on the TERT protein and we want to do its liver-specific expression to cure diabetes. I am also trying to enhance the resistance of wheat against fungus diseases like rust. For that purpose, we have been transforming rust resistance genes, isolated from local verities, and transforming into high-yielding wheat varieties. We are also considering the genetic transformation of wheat (Triticum aestivum) with Pathogenesis-Related genes for sustainable resistance against stem rust. One of my research groups is working on studying the Genetic and molecular basis of eye disorders (vision-related abnormalities like retinal dystrophy, retinal degeneration (RD), age-related macular degeneration (AMD), optic nerve hypoplasia, aniridia, congenital cataracts, cone-rod dystrophies, glaucoma, refractive errors, strabismus, Duane syndrome, Brown syndrome and Usher syndrome), Deafness, etc.
